I've had several prospective members ask if they have to take the next number in sequence (#14) or should new members be allowed to pick a number? I submit this question to you, the current members of the order. We'll let majority rule but only if all members vote.
PS: I'm going to start nagging you for your essay on fezorocity. You know who you are.
While I feel fortunate to have received my traditional lucky number "3", it's just the luck of the draw. I favor drawing numbers in sequence, else we shall have discord as the fez-folk will all be wanting special numbers: 77 Sunset strip, Route 66, 666, 333 (half evil), 23 skidoo, or 30 (work finished).
On the other hand, we could have a steel-fez death match to see who wins the desired number, but I think that departs from the joie de vivre implicit in our fezorocity.

Would we have to change the name to the Out Of Order Of The Fez (OOOOTF)? Or, even better, the Random Order Of The Fez?

I'm all for doing it in order but then again, I understood the going out of order for the fezmongers (because they were offering something in return).
I'd have to say, "In order unless you're offering something of value to the OOF in exchange."
Oh yeah... and Doc left out 665 (the neighbor of the beast).

While I did ask for special consideration as Fezmonger I did not get my number out of order. I simply sat quietly and waited for my chance to apply *in order*. You will note that Joe has yet to become an official member as he is waiting for a higher number. Had someone sniped my preferred number before I had turned in my official request I would have only blamed myself for not being on top of it. I support the Order of it all.

I for one favor the out of sequence (but I'm biased) since I'm hovering over #42 (and willing to wait a tad)
But - that said... I'm one for Order. Seriously, you should see the workshop after I get done with it - Jason just rolls his eyes and sighs.

I'm in favor of order. Then, as members move on to that great fez shop in the sky, perhaps their numbers could be auctioned off, ala Delaware license plates.

Sequence.
Although, the OOTF could make a little extra "cabbage" on application fees for those who insist upon disrupting the "fez shui" of numerical order.
